On October 4th, veteran DWC Team Leader Tom Fair and his group of six volunteers headed to Peru to start their two week volunteer journey. The group arrived in Lima on October 4th and had a day to explore the city and relax. The next day, they flew into Chiclayo and then took a bus up to Jaen. There the group began work on the volunteer project which involved helping to construct cement forms and cut, bend and tie re-bar
for the floor of the second floor of a school's kitchen/dining room. Our Host Partner in Jaen, Cepronam, provides education for working children in the community.
The group also had the opportunity to visit another local school and meet with the teachers and students. Although the school is located in a very poor area, the
children were great and it was a very enjoyable experience for the volunteers.
On our last day, the volunteers met with the parents of a number of
the children at the school they were working on. The parents all took turns
speaking to the group, and while they could not understand all of their words,
their emotion was very evident. They where very happy to have volunteers come and try
to help their children.
